JAMMU, Dec 28: Senior leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jayesh Gupta today lambasted the authorities at the helm of affairs in Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu for not issuing hard copies of driving licenses (DLs) to the citizens for last more than one year.
Addressing a press conference, Jayesh Gupta said for last more than one year, people have been making rounds of RTO office Jammu for getting hard copies of their licenses but every time they were asked to come again after few days.
He said people of Jammu are facing lots of problem for the last one and a half year. “People are giving application and fees to the RTO Department for new driving licenses and after completing the trial successfully, the Department is sending them the digital copy which will be opened in the digilocker but they are not getting the hard copy (card) of the driving license,” he alleged.
“Similar is the case for those whose driving licenses have expired. They have also fulfilled all the formalities and even received digital copies of their renewed licenses but for months together they are waiting for hard copies of the licenses,” Gupta said, adding, earlier there used to be delay of one or two months but this time there is inordinate delay on the part of the authorities and there is no clarity when hard copies of the licenses will be issued to the applicants.
The AAP leader said that in the absence of hard copy of licenses, people are being penalized by the traffic police as many traffic police officials refuse to accept the digital copy. Stating that due to negligence of Transport Department, general public is facing harassment, Jayesh appealed the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo to take the cognizance of the issue and solve this problem at the earliest.
Other party leaders present in the press conference were Dr Rajinder Thappa, Suresh Bangotra and Asif Gill.
