MOSOCW, Dec 29: The Russian government is working on liberalising the visa regime with friendly countries and creating conditions to attract tourists to the country, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko told Sputnik on Friday.
“The issue of further liberalisation of the visa regime with friendly states is being worked out at the government level. But first of all, we try to create all the conditions so that as many guests as possible come to us. Russia has huge potential for the development of the tourism sector-al climatic zones, unique tourist routes, cultural and architectural monuments, great opportunities for recreation,” Chernyshenko said.
A list of 17 priority countries for promoting tourism cooperation was approved, including China, Turkey, India, Vietnam, Thailand, and Egypt, the official said.
“In the first 11 months of this year, we received about 7.7 million foreign citizens, mainly tourists from Kazakhstan, China, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Mongolia, Belarus, and Azerbaijan. Starting next year, we are launching a programme to promote the Russian tourism brand abroad,” Chernyshenko said. (UNI)
