JAMMU, Dec 29: Sardar Manjit Singh, Provincial President, Apni Party (AP), has criticized the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) for abruptly disconnecting electricity in various areas without prior notice.
Singh called for the intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, citing unnecessary harassment and forced power cuts.
A meeting held in this regard, attended by party officials including Legal Wing’s Kuldeep Sudan and Women Wing’s Neelam Gupta, discussed issues in the Bahu constituency. Singh emphasized the emerging power crisis in Jammu City, leading to prolonged power cuts in residential colonies.
He highlighted the lack of justification for electricity cuts and unilateral actions by JPDCL without allowing consumers to explain their side. He urged Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene against JPDCL officials and ensure consumers are given the opportunity to clarify their position.
Expressing concern over alleged disconnections due to unpaid fees, Singh emphasized the need for consumers to be granted time to explain their situation. He warned of protests by Apni Party if harassment of power consumers persists.
Additionally, Singh demanded 24/7 electricity supply during the harsh winter season, emphasizing the significance of uninterrupted power for residents. The Apni Party vowed to take to the streets in protest if the reported harassment continues.
