Srinagar, Jan 1: Mohammad Ahsan Rather was today elected as the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Yateem Foundation (JKYF) for a two-year term.
A spokesperson for the foundation said that Rather was administered the oath of secrecy and allegiance to the Jammu and Kashmir Yateem Foundation (JKYF) on the same day after being elected as the new chairman of the foundation for a period of two years. He said that the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of JKYF, consisting of elected executive members from all districts in Jammu and Kashmir, elected Rather through a secret ballot held at Baitul Hialal at Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar. Rather secured 17 out of a total of 18 votes.
“Pertinently, the secret ballot indicates that there is no open contestant in this election as per the provision of JKYF Constitution. According to the JKYF Constitution, the outgoing Chairman Mohammad Rafiq Lone served for two successive stints and was not eligible for the third successive term,” he said.
