JAMMU, Jan 2: Alleging “Officers Raj” in Jammu and Kashmir, Chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Azad today announced that his party will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls so that issues of J&K people are highlighted in Parliament of the country.
“I want our party candidates to get elected to the Lok Sabha so that voice of common people in Jammu and Kashmir, unemployed, poor and deprived sections may be raised in the Parliament,” he said, while addressing an impressive public gathering at Rajgarh in Ramban district on Tuesday.
Pointing out that Lok Sabha elections will be held after March 2024 and Assembly polls may be conducted either simultaneously or after some time, Azad sought public support to DPAP for victory of the party candidates in both the elections.
Claiming that he kept raising the voice of his people as long as he was in Parliament, the DPAP Chairman wished that his party candidates are elected to Lok Sabha so that voice for restoration of Statehood, land and job security for the locals may be affectively raised.
The former Chief Minister alleged ‘Officers’ Raj’ in Jammu and Kashmir where there was no one to listen to the grievances of common people.
“People of my State, whether in urban or rural areas, are in difficulties as there is no one to listen to their grievances in absence of a popular Government, MLAs, Ministers and CM,” he said and alleged that the officers from Bihar, UP and other States were least concerned about the issues of locals as a non-local officer would stay here for two years and move to other place of posting.
Azad stressed that the time has come for people to differentiate between those who worked for the socio-economic empowerment of the people and those who have been disempowering people systematically.
“When you vote in the elections, remember you have to vote for a competent candidate since it is the matter of governance so the faith shall not come as an obstacle for you that would lead to poor decision making on your part. Because you are not electing a head for mosque or temple,” he said and added that no religion should come in between when it is service to people and people should respect each other as human beings and practice faith personally.
Claiming that he understands the needs and requirements of people, especially of those residing in hilly areas, Azad said that when his party would form the Government in Jammu and Kashmir, these areas and people will receive special attention so that they too have easy and comfortable life.
Among others, who were present on the occasion, included G M Saroori, Vice Chairman DPAP; General Secretary Abdul Majeed Wani, General Secretary Anita Thakur, Chief Spokesperson Salman Nizami, P R Manhas, Sunita Arora, Arun Singh Raju, Thakur Dharam Chand, Shakeel Singh Bhagat, Vishal Chopra, Asif Gattu, Amin Bhatt, Ch Mohd Farooq, Farooq Ah Ganai, Girdarilal Bhau, Dr Asif Khanday, Shahrukh Bhatti, Aqib Khanday, Sheikh Shabir and others.
