DODA, Jan 8: Absence of a bridge over a rivulet near village Bhangrow in Gandoh area here has made the life of the people miserable and prone to risk as to cross the stream they enter the water and cross where they find less depth.
Locals of the area informed that the problem is as it was since independence of the country.
“The administration has so far paid no heed to our repeated pleas to construct a bridge over the rivulet so that the locals of the area may safely cross the stream,” they claimed.
Every day locals including students of several villages risk their lives and cross the rivulet by entering its waters as there is no alternate route.
Parents are often seen carrying their children on shoulders to cross the stream.
“With no bridge over the stream we are forced to cross it by entering its waters with bags on our heads,” said a student of village Bhangrow adding that people there have been suffering due to the absence of a bridge on the rivulet.
Gafoor Ahmed, a local said that they were waiting for the construction of a bridge over the stream but so far nothing has been done in this regard by the government.
“Every year we construct a temporary bridge over the stream but during rainy season the gushing waters washes it away leaving the people with no option than to enter the water to cross the stream,” locals informed adding: “During rains, the area remains cut off from rest of the Sub District Gandoh as water in the rivulet does not allow people to cross it by entering in it.”
They said that in case of emergency, the villagers face lot of problems to reach district headquarters.
The locals have requested to J&K Lieutenant Governor to take a serious note of this and instruct the district administration to construct a bridge over the rivulet so that they may heave a sigh of relief.
