SAMBA, Jan 8: Apni Party provincial president Jammu and former Minister, Manjit Singh today expressed anguish over growing power crises due to unscheduled power cuts in Jammu plains amid harsh weather conditions that has put normal life out of gear.
“The acute cold weather conditions have affected normal life because the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has failed to maintain the needed electricity supply in the rural as well as urban residential areas,” said Manjit Singh, addressing a meeting at village Nihalki in Vijaypur assembly constituency.
The former Minister said that the farmers have also suffered because they are unable to supply irrigation water using the water pumps to their agricultural fields. He said that the authorities are unconcerned about the growing public woes and they have not been projecting the actual need of electricity that should be supplied to cater the needs of the power consumers in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The J&K has been facing an electricity crisis in Jammu as well as in Kashmir, yet the authorities are not acting promptly in response to the situation that has affected the normal life, agricultural activities, business and industrial sector,” he said.
“The harsh weather condition has adverse impact and there is a dire need for the Government to immediately take needed steps and provide relief to the people by supplying them 24/7 electricity,” he said. He also demanded that the power tariff should be waived off in favour of the farmers and economically weaker section.
Earlier, dozens of youth joined the Party in presence of Manjit Singh. The meeting was attended by ST J&K president Saleem Alam, ex-chairman Municipal Committee/Block president Bari Brahmana Pushap Raj, District president Youth Mangat Ram and others.
