JAMMU, Jan 9: A historic and mega conclave of women and senior politicians of the country under the banner of ‘Stree Shakti’ and joint collaboration with Dr Ritu Singh was held today at Hari Niwas Palace, here to celebrate women reservation in electoral politics.
President of National Conference and Member Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah, senior leader of People’s Democratic Party and DDC Chairperson Safina Baig, senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former deputy chief minister participated in the conclave along with Rekha Mody (founder, Stree Shakti), Dr Ritu Singh (chairman, Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation) and Farzana Mumtaz (editor in chief, News Kashmir) and shared their views on ‘women reservation’
Speaking on the occasion, Rekha Mody stated that the conclave has been organized to celebrate the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. She stated that women are ready to embrace reservation and its political parties who need to walk the talk.

“At Historic Hari Niwas Palace, we are celebrating the Women Reservation Bill,” she said and emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry are the first regions of country that will witness implementation of women reservation in electoral politics. She said that they are stressing on women of J&K to be ready to be part of history and all the politics parties not just wait for reservation but be women centric in approach.
Dr Ritu Singh opined that under visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the women of J&K are marching in right directions and shaping brighter present and future for country. She said that women reservation would give massive rise to socio political status of women of India and act as catalyst in entrepreneurs’ development of women in all spheres.
She further added that the women’s role in active governance and policy making will enhance equality and efficiency in the spirit of Indian democracy.
Prominent speakers who motivated the gathering included Dr Beena Jad from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Naryana Hospital, Dr Shilpa Pandita (Superintendent, Naryana Hospital), Ritu (president, Mahila Morcha Reasi), Ruchika Sharma (Incharge, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Reasi), Rajni Sharma, Satya Kaul Acheiver, Sheetal Sharma (president, women wing, Apni Party), Apni Party Mahila Morcha leaders Pooja Devi, Henna Begum, Rani Singh, Bharti Devi and Anuradha Sharma, State working president, Trade Union J&K Congress, Madhu Sharma Deputy Headmistress DPS Katra and Meenakshi Koul (Senior Secondary coordinator, DPS Katra).
Farzana Mumtaz termed reservation for women a great omen and hoped that with desired provisions women will get representation in all important tiers of governance. She observed that women of J&K are ready to lead Nation towards era of progress.
Eminent women from politics and diverse fields including Seema Murthy, Ritika Trehan, Neha Mahajan, Indu Khuda Veena Handa, Esther William, Mitali Gupta, Renu Gupta, Winnie Sindh, Chandrika Singh, Payal Saraf, Renuka Modi, Mona Saraf, Ankita Bansal, Twinkle Suri and Sandhya Gupta also dawned the occasion with their valuable views.
