Car falls into gorge on Mughal Road, 1 critical

POONCH, Jan 9: One person was critically injured when a car skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge on Mughal Road in Surankote area late Tuesday evening.
Official sources said that the mishap took place at around 7.20 pm, when the ill-fated Alto car (JK12A/1136) was on way to Poonch from Srinagar. It was being driven by Showkat Mehmood Sheikh (Contractor), son of Abdul Karim, resident of Saillan village in Surankote tehsil of district Poonch. He was said to be travelling alone from Kashmir.
At Chhattapani, near Behramgalla, the vehicle reportedly, due to slippery road conditions, rolled down into nearly 500 ft deep gorge. A Romeo Force unit of the Army in the nearby location, came to know about the matter and rushed to the spot. Led by a Major rank officer, the team evacuated the critically injured contractor from the snow bound deep gorge in the darkness. The Army Medical team provided immediate treatment on the spot to the victim and later shifted him to Surankote hospital in Ambulance with doctor onboard. The police party from Behramgalla had also arrived the spot.
After providing treatment to the victim at Surankote hospital, the doctors further referred him to GMC Rajouri for serious head and spine injuries, the officials said.
