Renowned TV, Radio, stage artist Asha Zaroo is no more

JAMMU, Jan 9: Asha Zaroo, a renowned TV, Radio and theatre artist of J&K breathed her last here, today after a brief illness. She was 72.
Her contribution in promoting and strengthening the art and culture of J&K trough radio, stage and television programmes especially drama is immense.
Breaking all the shackles in the society at a time when hardly any lady artist would participate in cultural programmes, she contributed a lot in promoting the same through her talent and created a way for other girls to follow. At the early age her participation in acting through various mediums like serials of DD, Radio and stage earned her a name and fame. She can be always remembered her role of Maa in a TV serial which she also staged later at Abhinav Theatre.
Her carrier spanned over five decades including joining in Young Man’s Cultural Association at an early age and later serving Song and Dramatic Division GoI. She was awarded by many organizations for her contribution to the field of art and culture. In Jammu she also regularly participated in a daily feature Wangez Woor of Radio Sharda in her role as Asha, the sister of Pappa Ji.
Her cremation will take place at Bantlab Cremation Ground tomorrow at 12 noon. The artists fraternity of J&K including directors and producers have expressed their shock and grief over demise of Asha Zaroo.
