JAMMU, Jan 11: Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of JKPCC and DDC Member Suchetgarh slammed the BJP for initiating the Gaon Chalo Abhiyan, terming it nothing more than a political gimmick.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, the senior Congress leader pointed out that the entire BJP leadership has seemingly forgotten about the villages for more than nine years, highlighting their lack of substantial engagement with rural areas during their prolonged time in power.
Tony emphasized that the BJP leadership has not proactively addressed the issues faced by farmers and residents in far-flung and remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir throughout their nine-year tenure. The BJP Government at the Centre has miserably failed to provide basic amenities that form the foundation of a thriving rural community, he said, adding that these concerns span a wide spectrum, ranging from the inadequate provision of essential healthcare services, marked by a scarcity of doctors in health centers, to the deplorable condition of school buildings that compromises the quality of education provided to the children in these regions.
Tony said that the dilapidated condition of roads further exacerbates the challenges faced by the residents, hindering connectivity and impeding economic development. He asserted that the sudden focus on villages and rural areas appears conveniently timed as the Lok Sabha polls approach. He said that it may be more of an election-driven strategy than a genuine effort to address the long-standing concerns of those residing in rural and remote parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
