JAMMU, Jan 11: Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari reviewed crucial National Highway projects in the Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir besides other States in New Delhi.
Union Minister of State for Road, Transport and Highways Gen (Retd) VK Singh, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brig (Retd) BD Mishra and Lok Sabha member from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgayal also attended the meeting among others.
Tweets by Office of the Lt Governor Ladakh today said Gadkari reviewed crucial National Highway projects in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh along with Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar.
Brig (Retd) Mishra expressed gratitude to Nitin Gadkari for sanctioning 29 roads at a cost of Rs 1170 crores, under CRIF and eight bridges at a cost of Rs 182 crores under Setubandhan Scheme for the Union Territory of Ladakh for the year 2023-24.
“In Ladakh, these projects have paved way for major infrastructural development in the UT of Ladakh,” Mishra said.
The Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways has undertaken series of infrastructure development projects in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Some of the projects are aimed at providing good infrastructure in the border areas to ensure uninterrupted supply to the troops and help the border dwellers.
Recently, Gadkari announced Rs 1,170.16 crore for 29 road projects, encompassing State Highway and other major roads in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
“Ladakh, the largest Union Territory in terms of area and the second least populous in the country, will witness improved connectivity to its remote villages through the approved initiatives,” Gadkari had said.
Meanwhile, during his Delhi visit, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh inaugurated the Presidential suite at Ladakh Bhawan in New Delhi. This exclusive space is designated for the use of Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court.
Several other delegations also called on Brig (Retd) Mishra in the Union capital.
