JAMMU, Jan 14: Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Chairman and former Minister, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen, today accused the LG Administration of neglecting Nilnag, a high-altitude ancient blue-watered lake in Central Kashmir’s Budgam District.
Addressing a workers’ convention at Buzgoo area in Charar-e-Sharief Constituency, Yaseen said the Tourism Department has been overlooking Nilnag and emphasized the urgent need for its development.
He expressed disappointment that not even a single penny has been spent on Nilnag Lake during the current fiscal, highlighting the lack of progress on the ground. He urged the personal intervention of LG Manoj Sinha to promote tourism in various potential tourist resorts, including Yusmarg, Doodhpathri, and Tossamaidan.
The PDF Chairman called for modernizing Nilnag, Yusmarg, Doodhpathri, and Tossamaidan, stressing the untapped tourism potential in these areas for socio-economic prosperity.
Yaseen demanded the construction of Nilnag-Yusmarg-Bargah Gandola project, emphasizing its potential to generate tourism-related employment opportunities for the local youth.
Criticizing the tourism department’s lackadaisical approach, Yaseen pointed out the completed modern tourist huts in Nilnag, which remain unused due to the department’s inaction. He appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to hold those responsible for neglecting Nilnag Lake accountable.
Yaseen highlighted Nilnag as a top tourist destination, praising its sparkling blue waters, picturesque surroundings with towering pine trees, and snow-capped mountains. He emphasized the tourism potential for adventure lovers, citing the opportunity for trekking that remains untapped.
Additionally, he reiterated his call for the restoration of Shumnadi Kohl to boost agriculture in Buzgoo village and adjacent areas. He urged the speedy execution of the proposed Gulmarg-Tossamaidan-Doodhpathri tourist circuit to diversify Kashmir’s tourism beyond traditional destinations like Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
