Ten days multi-arts festival begins at JU

JAMMU, Jan 16: UTSAAH, Club Consortium of University of Jammu, is organising ‘Protsaahan’- a ten-day multi-arts festival that began today with the opening of a five-day art camp “Sarjana” by the Painting Club in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
Suresh Gupta, Principal Secretary Culture Department, was chief guest in the inaugural function while Bharat Singh, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was the guest of honour. Twelve prominent artists from all over India are mentoring the students during the camp, being coordinated by Rakesh Sharma, Coordinator Painting Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Gupta said that University is the best grooming ground for the students. He said that culture goes a long way in cultivating good citizenship among the youth.
Bharat Singh said that the academy is looking forward to long term collaboration with the university in the various activities of the clubs.

Earlier, the day started with a blood donation camp by the University Social Justice Club wherein more than 100 students registered themselves as donors. Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu was the chief guest and Dr Sanjogita Soodan, Dy Medical Superintendent SSH Jammu, was the guest of honour.
Prof Meena Sharma, Dean Planning and Development JU, marked the occasion as special guest. The event was coordinated by Dr Shashi Prabha, Coordinator, Community Service and Social Justice Club.
Prof Satnam Kour, Chairperson Utsaah, Club Consortium of Jammu University, acknowledged the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai, who envisaged these clubs as alternate platforms of learning and self exploration for students, employees, faculty and civil society. Lauding the initiative of the Community Service Club, Dr Ashutosh Gupta said that such kind of blood donation camps should be made a regular feature in the University.
Dr Sanjogita Soodan shared that a new initiative of organ donation has been introduced and the University can play a significant role in raising awareness for the same.
Prof Meena Sharma said that such camps reiterate the commitment of the university for the community.
Dr Sadaf Shah and Dr Sashi Prabha presented the formal vote of thanks. Atiqa Malik and Riya Bhagat conducted the proceedings.
