The MA Stadium where Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will unfurl the tricolor and address Republic Day function has been fully secured, the officials said.
Large number of people besides the officials are expected to reach the Stadium to witness the main function.
Special nakas have been laid at various places by the police to check passing vehicles.
There has been special focus on the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch where security forces were conducting searches at different places.
Security has been heightened in Kashmir ahead of Republic Day to ensure incident free celebrations in the Valley.
Police and security personnel are conducting sanitization and area domination across Kashmir for the last one week. Deployments of police and paramilitary forces are evident in the city and district headquarters. Checkpoints have been established, particularly at entry points to Srinagar and other districts and also along the National Highway.
Security forces were conducting random checking of vehicles and frisking of people to thwart the movement of subversive elements.
The security around the venues of Republic Day functions in the Valley, including the stadium here, has been beefed up, and a multi-layer security apparatus has been put in place around the venues, the officials said.
Security agencies have been asked to remain alert and not allow anyone to disturb law and order, and vitiate peace.
“The arrangements are in place, the necessary measures have been taken. The security has been beefed up and we will ensure smooth celebrations, be it in Srinagar or elsewhere in the Valley,” Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, V K Birdi said.
“The field formations are in place and they are taking necessary measures,” Birdi said when asked if there were any specific inputs on potential militant attacks.
A full-dress rehearsal is being carried out at Bakshi Stadium and other venues across the Valley today. Divisional Commissioner, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri today said at the full-dress rehearsal function that Kashmir has achieved success not just in maintaining peace and order but also in various other areas, adding such accomplishments wouldn’t have been possible without the cooperation of the public.
He said that in 2023, a record number of tourists visited Srinagar’s Tulip Garden, and although there could have been traffic congestion issues, actions taken the previous year prevented any such problems.
Bidhuri said whether it was the G20 event, Amarnath Yatra, Muharram Procession, or other occasions, everything was celebrated collectively which shows the essence of “Kashmiriyat” for which Kashmir is renowned.
Expressing pride in his participation in these moments, Bidhuri called upon the public to continue their cooperative efforts for sustained success.
Commending the efforts of contingents participating in the Republic Day Rehearsal celebrations, Bidhuri acknowledged their role in contributing to the positive narrative of progress and unity in Kashmir.
