JAMMU, Feb 8: Natrang’s world famous Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’ mesmerized jam-packed Zorawar Singh auditorium with the mind blowing performance of outstandingly brilliant actors who have performed globally.
Sponsored by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, the play was presented on the conclusion of 101st Indian Science Congress. Principal Secretary Planning and Development B R Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion whereas B B Viyas Principal Secretary to Chief Minister was the guest of honour.
Those who graced the occasion included Prof M P S Ishar, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu, Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director IIIM and Prof R C Sobti, President Indian Science Congress Association.
Written and directed by Padamshree Balwant Thakur the play has already given a new cultural identity to the region for its original concept, powerful music, brilliant acting and out of the world visual design. Through this play Balwant Thakur brought global recognition not only for himself but also for the entire country by making it to the world’s most sought after theatre events.
Amongst actors Vikrant Sharma as the lead player of the play was at his best. He has attained a level beyond perfection where he creates magic in every successive performance. New find of Natrang Namrata Chib excelled as ‘Dhulhan’ in her debut performance. Anil Tickoo as Dulha, Suresh Kumar as ‘Baap’, Sumit Sharma as ‘Mama’ Pawan Verma as ‘Chadpala’ and Dimple Sharma as ‘Pandit’ were brilliant in their performance and their command over their act was visible in every sequence of the play. Others who gave appreciable performances included Sajra Qadir, Aarushi Thakur, Surya Salathia, Ashwani Bali, Uplaksh Singh Kotwal, Sushil Raina, Ankush Lakhnotra, Mahikshit Singh Langeh, Gopi Sharma, and Sanchita Dubey.
Suraj Singh’s out of the world singing and his entry on stage as an actor was highly commended by the audience. Suraj Ganjoo designed and executed the lights and Mohd. Yaseen executed the sound. Neeraj Kant was the Assistant Director.
‘Ghumayee’ is the first Indian play which made it to the world famous ‘Frankfurt Theatre Festival’, Frankfurt, Germany in 2009. It also has the credit of having featured in World experimental Theatre Festival Moscow, Russia and in the Common Wealth Games, New Delhi besides Belgrade, Yaroslavl, Hungary and Poland.
