Successful diversion of Chenab River achieved at Ratle HE Project

KISHTWAR, Jan 28: A major milestone has been achieved at the 850 MW Ratle HE Project in Jammu and Kashmir with the diversion of Chenab River through Diversion Tunnels at Drabshalla.
The River Diversion will enable isolation of Dam area at river bed for starting excavation/ construction of Dam which is a critical activity. It shall expedite the project construction activities and help in minimising delays so as to facilitate all efforts being made by Project to achieve scheduled commissioning date of May 2026.
The River Diversion ceremony was inaugurated by R K Vishnoi, CMD NHPC and witnessed by H Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary (PDD); I D Dayal, Chairman RHPCL; Pankaj Mangotra, MD, JKSPDC; Directors of NHPC, A K Nauriyal, CEO, RHPCL and other dignitaries from NHPC and GoJK.
The Ratle Project is being executed by Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (RHPCL), a Joint Venture of NHPC Limited and GoJK with shareholding of 51:49 percent, respectively. Ratle HE project is situated on River Chenab in Kishtwar District with installed capacity of 850 MW. CCEA sanction was accorded to Project by Govt of India in Feb 2021 with total cost of Rs 5281.94 crore.
