Salma Ansari visits Model Academy, accorded rousing reception

JAMMU, Feb 8: Vice President Hamid Ansari’s wife, Salma Ansari, an illustrious Alumna of Model Academy visited her alma mater today. In her honour, the Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) organised an impressive function.
Dr Arun Gupta, Chairman MIER Group of Institutions, Dr Renu Gupta, Director, Dr Adit Gupta and Dr Ankur Gupta, Joint Directors MIER along with faculty and students of Model Academy and MIER College of Education received Salma Ansari.
The Naval NCC Cadets and Scouts and Guides presented Guard of Honour to Mrs Ansari. She paid floral tributes to founders of the Institution-late HL Gupta and Mrs Shanti Gupta.
Salma Ansari fondly remembered late Sehdev Rohmetra, former Editor-in-Chief of Daily Excelsior as her classmate and head boy of her time in the school. “Sehdev was very stirct and ensured full discipline in class as head boy,” she said while recalling her childhood time in Jammu. She also met Ashok Suri, one of her class fellows, who specially came to meet her despite ill health.
Dr. Arun Gupta welcomed the guests and described her asan exalted personality imbibing progressive views with vast international exposure and experience of serving the down trodden and the underprivileged sections of the society spanning over three decades.
He vividly recollected the achievements Mrs Ansari during her school days and her participation in curricular activities specially debates and dramas.  She was a favourite student of the founders late H. L. Gupta and Shanti Gupta and was indeed a role model for other students.
MrsAnsari, in her address, expressed her gratitude to her alma mater which has been instrumental in shaping her life.   She gave an account of her fond memories at the school, which were nostalgic and heartwarming. She recounted the dedication and hard work undertaken by the teachers and students during those times and attributed her success to these values.
The students of Model Academy presented a melodious patriotic group song in her honour. The chief guest released the latest issue of ‘Model Mirror’, the newsletter of Model Academy and also inaugurated the next issue of the monthly Wall Magazine of Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies, MIER College of Education.
Dr. Renu Gupta presented a memento and an Alumni Badge to Mrs Ansari as a token of appreciation and remembrance. Dr. Adit Gupta, Joint Director proposed a formal vote of thanks to the guest and expressed his gratitude to her for taking out time from her hectic schedule to visit her alma mater.  Manju Wali, faculty Model Academy compered the entire programme.
Mrs  Ansari also paid a short visit to Model Academy, Residency Road where she had studied in the early fifties.
