Dr. Shuja, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Haj Committee, J&K, informed Excelsior that 8,060 people had applied this year, of which 43 applications were rejected due to the expiration of their passports, leaving 8,017 aspirants who will be performing Hajj this year.
“The total quota with us this year was over 8,800; all the applicants have been selected. The selected people will be informed about it, following which they will carry out further formalities,” he said.
The CEO mentioned that the selected applicants will receive a message on their mobile numbers, referring to their cover numbers.
“After that, they will deposit the first installment, Rs 81,500, of the amount which they will have to pay in total,” he said, adding that the selection list will also be uploaded on the website.
He stated that all over India, 1 lakh 75 thousand aspirants will perform Hajj this year, of which 35 thousand people will go through private tour operators and 1 lakh 40 thousand through the Hajj Committee of India.
Commenting on the fewer number of applications received this year in J&K, he said that the total amount for the pilgrimage witnessed an increase, “that could possibly be the reason behind a drop in the applications.”
