Katra businessmen, citizens seek amendment in municipal laws

JAMMU, Feb 8: The businessmen and citizens of holy town of Katra today urged the Government to immediately bring a bill in the forthcoming Budget Session to amend the municipal laws in order to provide them respite from the sealing exercise.
A meeting of businessmen and citizens including the representatives of the Hotels and Lodges Association was held at Raghunath Temple this evening. The meeting was also attended by Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Reasi Baldev Raj Sharma.
During the meeting, a 51 members committee was framed, which will pursue the tabling of the bill in the forthcoming Budget Session with the Government.
The participants said, “if the Government fails to take steps in this regard, all the business establishments in the holy town Katra will begin indefinite shut-down and only Government would be responsible for the same”.
Meanwhile, protest march was taken out in the town in the morning as well as in the evening to lodge protest over the sealing exercise. However, all the business establishments remained open throughout the day today.
According to the reports, MLA Reasi, Baldev Raj Sharma called on Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah during his visit at Shri Mata Vaishnodevi University and apprised him of the prevailing situation.
