Authorities wake up to violations of in-house testing

Srinagar, Feb 2: The authorities have awakened from a deep slumber, issuing necessary directives regarding malpractice where patients’ samples at selected government hospitals were being sent out for processing at private labs by doctors.
In this regard, the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK), has issued a circular, directing the addressing of the issue with the support of law enforcement agencies.
“It has come to the notice…that some agents/touts employed by different Private Testing Labs outside Government Health Care Facilities are motivating patients to carry out medical tests privately despite having such testing facilities available in Government Health Care Facilities.”
To address this issue, directives state that Chief Medical Officers/Medical Superintendents of Government hospitals should “take all necessary measures to discourage such unethical/unfair practices with the support of law enforcement agencies and encourage patients to report any such incidents. Implement a system for monitoring and addressing such complaints under intimation to this Directorate.”
It is to be noted here that Excelsior had earlier reported about the matter with a specific reference to the malpractice by some doctors at GMC, Baramulla. The authorities had assured action provided they received any complaints.
Meanwhile, the Principal of GMC, Baramulla, has also issued a circular in this connection, seeking mandatory compliance with in-house laboratory investigations.
“…it is directed that all laboratory investigations conducted within this institution must exclusively take place within our in-house establishments. The institution underscores the prohibition of any attempts to carry out such investigations outside our established facilities. Strict adherence is expected from all personnel involved in laboratory activities. Any reluctance or non-compliance in this regard will be strictly dealt with,” the circular reads.
