Bovine smuggling bid foiled in Akhnoor

JAMMU, Feb 2: A bovine smuggling bid was foiled by police in Akhnoor area here today.
A police spokesperson said that a party of Police Station Akhnoor led by SHO Akhnoor, Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Sharma, intercepted a Mahindra Bolero at Khugga Naka on the National Highway for checking.
On seeing the police party, the driver left his vehicle abandoned and managed to escape taking the benefit of the darkness, he added.
He said during checking of the vehicle, 4 bovines crammed inside it in a cruel manner were rescued.
While the vehicle of the offence has been seized a case FIR number 24/2024 under sections 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act, 50, 52, 54, and 56 Animal Transportation Rules has been registered at Police Station Akhnoor and further investigation taken up.
