Sharp pin removed from girl’s stomach without surgery

Rare procedure performed in GMC-J

JAMMU, Feb 3: A young girl from remote area of Jammu province, Mendhar ingested a Scarf ball pin accidentally, when she held pin in her teeth while tightening the scarf. The pin got struck in the stomach. The patient was referred to GMC Jammu for treatment. The removal of the pin was risky as one end was sharp which could cause serious injuries while removing, as it was difficult to hold the pin in the longitudinal axis.
The team of Endoscopy unit GMC Jammu under Dr Shoket Chowdhary including Dr Rahul Sudan, Jatindra Sharma (Chief Endoscopy Technician), Ram Paul, Ritu Rani and others performed this procedure taking almost one hour safely avoiding a major surgery.
There was full backup support from Department of Surgery Unit V, including Dr Riaz Hussain, Dr Sandeep Bhat and their team.
