CAT stays promotion of teachers of Jammu Division

JAMMU, Feb 4: In a significant order, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Jammu Bench has stayed the promotion of teachers of Jammu Division for the higher post of Masters in the School Education Department.
After hearing Advocate Arshad Majid Malik appearing for the petitioners/applicants namely Gulfraz Ahmed and seven others teachers belonging to tehsil Darhal, district Rajouri and AAG Sudesh Magotra appearing for the School Education Department, the Bench headed by Rajinder Singh Dogra, Member (J) observed, “Advocate A M Malik has submitted that the promotion of the applicants in some cases to the post of Master is being considered on the basis of age and in some cases it is considered on the basis of merit and there is no uniform criteria adopted by the School Education Department”.
The CAT disposed of the original application with a direction to the School Education Department to treat this OA as representation of the applicants and decided the same. The Bench further directed that the department will convey the order so passed to the applicants and the whole exercise shall be completed within a period of one week from the date of receipt of certified copy of this order.
The Bench further directed that till then no promotion should be made for the post of teachers of Jammu Division.
