JAMMU, Feb 12: Senior National Conference leaders today welcomed the announcement made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with regard to setting up of a new panel for examining the demands on creation of new administrative units in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Government’s decision to create 659 new administrative units is a landmark and unparallel in the history of the country which has already satiated the aspirations of majority of the people, the leaders said in a joint statement issued here this afternoon, adding that the move to take administration at the grass root level and the announcement made in the Legislative Assembly today reflects the keen desire of the Chief Minister to fulfill public demands and to empower every segment and every area of the State.
The signatories to the statement include Provincial President Devender Singh Rana, Surjeet Singh Slathia, Harbans Singh, Rattan Lal Gupta, Peer Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, Babu Ram Paul, Pt Govind Ram Sharma, Rachpal Singh, Abdul Gani Malik, RS Sharma, Ajaz Jan, Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy, Bimla Luthra, Dr Shenaz Gani, Provincial President Women Wing Vijay Laxmi Dutta, Provincial Secretary Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, Th Kashmir Singh , Babu Rampal, Brij Mohan Sharma, Jagjeevan Lal, Satpal Lakhotra, Dr Chaman Lal Bhagat, Haji Mohd Hussain, besides Sajjad Shaheen, Taranjeet Singh Tony, Rajesh Bakshi, Dhramveer Singh Jamwal, Mohinder Gupta, Dhian chand, Romy Khajuria, Bashir Ahmed Wani, Vipan pal Sharma, Tanvir Ahmed Kitchloo and all the functionaries at the district and block levels
The senior leaders described the decision as the Chief Minister’s earnest desire to reach out to the people in a big way and to ensure that no section of society nurtures feeling of deprivation. They hoped the new panel will hold exhaustive discussions with cross section of society and take a view over their demands on merits in fixed time frame. “Indeed, the initiative has generated an unprecedented enthusiasm among the people who yearn for administration to reach at their doorsteps”, they said, adding that public interest has always dominated Omar Abdullah’s decisions.
“Fixing time frame of three months for the new panel to submit its recommendations speaks how keen the Chief Minister is in meeting public demands”, they said.
