SRINAGAR, Feb 15: A massive operation has been launched to retrieve a mobile-phone and other incriminating material thrown by the prime accused involved in the killing of two residents from Punjab earlier this month.
A police official said that they apprehended the prime accused Adil Manzoor Langoo, a hybrid militant, from Zaldagar Srinagar recently.
He said that the accused divulged that he threw the mobile-phone, he used to contact his handlers based in Pakistan, into a water body at Saidapora near Aiwa bridge along Ali Jan road after committing the act. “The accused has dropped other incriminating material at a separate place in the same stretch”, the officer said.
He said that to take the investigation to a logical end, it was felt imperative to recover the mobile-phone and other incriminating material from the waterbody.
“In this pursuit a massive operation was launched, at both the specified places, since this morning where we have sought help from Marcos, SDRF and Navy personnel,” he said.
“We hope that the required material is found and brought out successfully, which will help us a great deal to proceed with the investigations”, the officer said further.
The Special Investigation Team was constituted under the DIG, Central Kashmir to further probe the killing of two non-locals.
