Drug peddler awarded 10-yrs sentence

SRINAGAR, Feb 15: The 4th Additional Sessions Judge Srinagar today while announcing quantum of sentence to an accused involved in drug trafficking awarded ten years rigorous imprisonment to him with fine of Rs 10 lakh.
The accused Junaid Raina of Kaloosa, Bandipora was convicted on February 12 in an FIR registered with Police Station Parimpora Srinagar for having been found to be in possession of Commercial quantity of illegal drugs.
The accused Mohammad Junaid Raina of Kaloosa has already been sent to jail on the day of conviction and was lodged in Central Jail Srinagar.
The prosecution had succeeded in proving the case against accused-Raina beyond any shadow of doubt and accordingly accused-Raina was convicted for the commission of offence under section 8/21 NDPS Act.
The convict was brought before the court by the jail authorities as directed by the court.
Raina was caught carrying drugs in a car on 23.06.2020 by a police party headed by SHO Parimpora who was on naka duty near Ansari Crossing adjacent to Toyota Showroom. As police had laid a naka, one vehicle City Honda bearing no. UP16AY-5846 was carrying illegal drugs and one strip of the same contraband was also recovered from the personal search of the accused and to this effect seizure was prepared.
Court had also directed that the seized contraband be destroyed after the appeal period is over and confiscation of the vehicle used for the commission of offence was also ordered.
