JAMMU, Feb 15: In order to maximize voters’ participation in electoral process, Election Commission of India has stressed on various voter awareness activities under the aegis of SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program.
In this regard, District Electoral Officer (Deputy Commissioner), Jammu is launching “Wakeup Jammu” campaign in the form of YUVA shows from GCW Gandhi Nagar on 17th February (Monday) which echoes the spirit of SVEEP program. The subsequent activities will be conducted in other areas in a scheduled and phased manner.
It is a unique kind of multi-pronged approach, which includes generation of voter awareness, promoting ethical voting and bringing the “Youth to the Booths” along with meeting other targets of the electoral process like, collection of missing photographs, of registered voters and enrollment of eligible persons as voters. The campaign is targeting the youth through social media and online programs for increasing better reach for them.
Various activities and components under this campaign are YUVA (Youth United for Voter Awareness) shows comprising of a skit (by Natrang artists) for sensitization to young voters, on spot enrolment of eligible voters during show, cake cutting for new voters, pledge for voting and other IEC activities.
These shows will be conducted mostly in college campus and all colleges of the concerned constituency will participate along with “Campus Ambassadors”, “Coordinators” and eligible voters.
Some voters Facilitation Centres have also been opened in HDFC Bank and J&K Bank Branches. There will be special photo collection campaign in every ward of the Jammu Municipal Corporation area.
J&K Bank, HDFC Bank and 92.7 Big FM are partnering this effort of District Election Officer Jammu under the overall guidance of the Chief Electoral Officer Jammu & Kashmir.
