Sham, Madan for collective efforts to ensure sustainable development

JOURIAN (AKHNOOR), Feb 15: On getting tehsil status in the recent announced administrative units by the State Government, people of Jourian honoured Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma and Member Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma at a mega public rally organized by the Congress Committee, Jourian and prominent citizens at Jourian town, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the people of Jourian have got their overdue share and Government has not done any special favour for them. He said Jourian is one of the oldest town of Jammu district having vast catchment area and deserved the status of Block and tehsil long back, but ultimately they got it and its credit goes to the local leadership as well as Central and State Governments.
Maintaining that getting the status of tehsil is itself an achievement and development will automatically be done, he said the Government will give more attention to address the important issues related to the all round development of the town. Listing the development initiatives already taken by the Government for the Jourian town, the Minister said that construction of new building of Sub-District Hospital and upgradaton of PHE scheme to cater the needs of town and other adjoining areas were the major initiatives.
He said the hospital work will be further speeded for its completion in a time bound manner. The entire funds for the project stand already released and agency will be directed to speed up the pace.
Responding to the demands of the people, the Minister issued instructions for the construction of a Rehan Basera on the pattern of Delhi city, for the facilities of shelter-less people. He also agreed to construct a PHE Guest House in the town, which was a long pending demand of the area.
With regard to help the houseless people of the town, the Minister directed the concerned officers to identify such families so that they are covered under Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) Scheme. Similarly, the BPL families will be accommodated under IAY scheme. The Minister also assured to upgrade the Girls High School, Jourian as Higher Secondary School in next phase, said the Minister.
Responding to the major demand for construction of bridge over river Chenab at Indiri Pattan, the Member Parliament said that this is a big project and he will make his best efforts to get it sanctioned by the Central Government in due course of time. He opined that Indiri Pattan is the best choice and a central location which can prove worth to connect large chunk of people with Jammu directly. He asked the people to make collective efforts for ensuring sustainable development of the area.
