Urgent reforms needed for J&K Power Sector

Sir,
I write to express my deep concern over the alarming state of affairs within the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation (JKPDCL) and the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC), as highlighted in recent reports. The JERC has rightfully raised apprehensions regarding the power tariff petition, pointing out various glaring deficiencies.
The inability of JKPDCL to fulfill its commitments, provide requisite data, and negotiate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) is deeply troubling. Unaudited accounts and a lack of project-specific particulars further hinder transparency. This raises questions about the financial viability of vital projects, including Renovation, Modernization, and Upgrading efforts.
With a staggering liability and persistent power outages, it is imperative that JKPDCL takes immediate action. Leaders within the corporation must address these issues promptly, ensuring the well-being of the public.
The J&K power sector requires urgent reform, transparency, and accountability. It’s high time that authorities take corrective measures to avoid further deterioration.
