JAMMU, Feb 16: National Panthers Party today staged protest in the Legislative Assembly over irregularities in the implementation of Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) and inordinate delay in taking up of sanctioned works in the power sector.
Raising the issue of RGGVY implementation during Question Hour, NPP MLA Harshdev Singh said, “Larson and Toubro company, which is carrying out electrification work under RGGVY scheme, has committed large scale irregularities in Udhampur district but despite bringing the same to the notice of the Government no action has been taken against the company for obvious reasons”.
“Out of 250 transformers installed by the company, 50% have got damaged and now it is said that these transformers are non-repairable which clearly indicates that sub-standard transformers were installed”, Mr Singh said, adding “this is a serious issue and we want to know as to what action has been taken against the company for committing irregularities”.
Even Congress MLA from Bhaderwah, Mohd Sharif Niaz raised this issue and said, “the Power Development Department should ensure strict implementation of the scheme so that no irregularity is committed as ultimately people would be at the receiving end”.
NPP MLA from Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia also lodged protest over the irregularities in the RGGVY scheme implementation and inordinate delay in start of work under R-APDRP in the Udhampur town.
“Udhampur district is being intentionally ignored by the Government”, Mr Mankotia shouted and said, “for the improvement work of HT/LT network in Udhampur constituency adequate funds have been released”. He further said, “not only Udhampur district even Jammu region is being discriminated as far as power supply is concerned”, adding “how can the Government justify realization of more revenue from Jammu region and supply of more power to Kashmir valley”.
Responding to the queries of the MLAs, the Minister of State for Power, Vikar Rasool informed the House that an amount of Rs 1.50 crore has been sanctioned for repair of the transformers installed under RGGVY scheme. He also assured to take immediate steps for release of funds for the sanctioned works.
