JAMMU, Feb 26: The Village Defence Guards (VDGs) here today demanded reservation in upcoming recruitment of police constables.
In a press conference the leaders of Association of VDGs said that they have served police and army in countering terrorism in Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar and other areas of Jammu and Kashmir that remained militancy infested.
They said that it is good that SPOs working in Police Department have given reservation in police recruitments for constables along with women and the same facility should also be extended for the members of VDGs.
“There are about 27,000 members in VDGs across J&K and fixing a quota of 4-5 per cent for them in recruitment of constables will remove many miseries of their families,” they maintained.
They also said that they will soon meet the concerned authorities in this regard and urged upon J&K LG to look into the matter.
