Samba police arrests bovine smuggler, rescues 11 animals

SAMBA, Feb 29: Continuing its drive against the bovine smugglers and their propagators, Samba Police has today foiled bovine smuggling attempt in the early morning hours, arrested bovine smuggler, rescued 11 bovines and seized truck in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal.
A police team of Police Station Ghagwal headed by SHO Police Station, Ghagwal while performing vehicle checking duty at naka NHW Tapyal, signalled to stop a truck bearing Registration Number JK20C-3470 coming from Kathua side for checking. But the driver of the vehicle accelerated the speed endangering the life of police personnel on naka duty and hit the vehicle with naka road barrier causing damage to it. The alert cops successfully intercepted the vehicle and during checking eleven bovines were found inside the vehicle which were tied in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally.
The bovine smuggler identified as Shabir Hussain Shah, son of Bal Hussain Shah of Banihal district Ramban has been arrested and the truck used for illegal transportation of bovines has also been seized.
A case FIR No. 26/2024 U/S 188 IPC, 11 PCA 3 PDPP Act, 50/52/54 Transport of Animals Rules has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation started.
