JAMMU, Feb 17: On 73rd day of its continuous dharna, the All J&K Casual Labourers Union took out a protest rally from the office of Chief Engineer EM&RE Wing, here today.
Shouting slogans in support of their demands, the protesting casual labourers assembled near the Press Club and held a demonstration there.
They were demanding release of wages, conversion to PDL, proper regularization policy and insurance policy for the workers.
The Union leaders threatened to further intensify their agitation and come on the streets if the Government does not fulfill all their genuine demands. They even threatened to stop the electricity supply to whole Jammu.
The demonstration was held under the leadership of Shesh Kumar and a number of casual labourers from PDD in Jammu province, participated in the protest rally.
While addressing, Shesh Kumar alleged that the police had lathicharged them on February 15 on the instance of Chief Engineer and Government administration. He claimed that some of the injured in Police lathicharge, have sustained critical injuries and were referred to outside the State for advanced treatment.
The demonstration was also addressed by other leader of the Union, who appealed the casual labourers to remain united for taking the ongoing struggle to a logical conclusion.
