JAMMU, Mar 1: MJR-47, an organisation of Displaced Persons from PoJK today demanded 12 Assembly seats and Rs 25 lakh package for the DPs of 1947.
In a press statement a spokesman of the MJR-47 said that DPs of 1947 from PoJK are the first saviors of J&K state, who fought the Pak Army / Tribal raider’s attack in Oct,1947, to defend the State. The minority Hindus and Sikhs were forced to leave their home and hearth, took shelter in this part of the state. They are being ignored for permanent rehabilitation and justice for the last 75 years. These DPs with a populace of around 16 lakhs (65% Hindus and 35% Sikhs) are living in Jammu province all along IB and LoC have suffered from the off and on cross-border-firing and violations of cease-fire all these years.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs in its report dated Dec 22, 2014 before both houses of Parliament, made several recommendations for final R&R. The then State govt had also recommended a package in Oct. 2014. Unfortunately not even a single measure out of both the recommendations has been implemented till date. The report suggested Rs 30 lakh package, grant of political recommendation as per their population, Grant od just omne seat is joke with the DPs. The Govt must provide 12 seats to the DPs. Since first installment of Rs 5.5 lakh has been paid, the remaining amount may be paid to them.
They also demanded to regularise more than 100 refugee Bastis/ camps, grant reservation to the wards of DPs in Govt jobs and professional and other colleges. The DPs of 1947 who are original residents of Pahari areas of Mirpur, Muzafrabad and Poonch of PoJK and are original Pahari speaking people also be included in the proposed award of Pahari status.
MJR-47 requested for grant for personal audience before the PM during his latest visit to Jammu, but may be due to his busy schedule it didn’t mature. DPs strongly appealed to the PM that justice be finally delivered to them.
