JAMMU, Mar 2: The Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) Jammu organized “Hearath Milan” function on the eve of Mahashivratri festival falling on March 8.
Dr. Sujata Sathoo senior Member of the Executive Committee welcomed the audience and also conducted the programme.
The occasion was marked with a display of the “Watak Mandal” which comprises of elaborate icons required for conducting the Puja on the occasion of Haerath, the most important festivals of the Kashmiri Pandits. Kanwal Peshin president of the Athrot Cultural Foundation explained in detail about the Watak Puja Vidhi and the significance of each and every icon. The Watak Mandal display was followed by singing of bhajans by young children of the community who enthralled the audience with their melodious performance. The Bhajans were sung by Daksh Bhat, Lavanya Koul, Pranav Pandita and Vanshika Kaw. The young singers were given a commendation certificate and a reward for their efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, K. K. Khosa president of the Sabha said that the festival has gained more significance after the forced exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley and their dispersal throughout the nation and even abroad. He said, inspite of their best efforts not many Kashmiri Pandit families are able to celebrate the festival together. The prominent personalities who participated in the function included Krishan Kimoo president KPA Mumbai, M. K. Jalali president, Sharika Peeth, A. K. Braroo, T. N. Bhat, Anil Kaul president Pashupati Nath Temple, Dr. T. K. Moza, Dr. Ramesh Thusoo, Sharda Nandan Bhat, Ravi Peer and A. K. Tikoo.
Besides, all the Executive Members namely Deepak Dhar, G. J. Kampasi, Ashok Kher, Asha Kitchloo, V. K. Mukhi, V. K. Bakshi, Vinod Bhat, Prof. R. K. Ganjoo, Rajinder Tiku, and Satish Khoda
The vote of thanks was delivered by S.L.Bagati, general secretary of the Sabha who exhorted the community youth to stay connected with the Kashmiri culture.
