JAMMU, Mar 2: The J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) here today organized ‘Meet-the-Author’ programme at K.L Saigal hall to have a direct interaction with Didar Singh, a renowned Punjabi/Hindi writer and poet.
Didar Singh was born on February 10, 1940 to Kirpal Singh and Amrit Kour at village Hill Sarung, Poonch now in PoJK and is presently residing in Nanak Nagar, Jammu.
At the outset, Bharat Singh, Secretary JKAACL delivered welcome address.
Didar Singh worked as an electrician and then as teacher in Punjab. Later on he joined All India Radio (AIR) Jammu as Hindi programme announcer in 1966 and in 1968 he was selected as script writer for Punjabi programmes at AIR. Then he qualified UPSC and was selected as Programme Executive for AIR in June 1977. He retired as Deputy Director Programmes in 1998.
Didar Singh was conferred Best Book Award for ‘Pagdandiyan De Bhulekhe’ in 1973 and ‘Darwaze’ in 1992 by JKAACL.
He is associated with many prominent literary organizations.
Dr. Rajvir Singh presented paper on Didar Singh. The dignitaries who shared the presidium included Ajeet Singh Mastana, Baljeet Raina, Popinder Singh.
Popinder Singh Paras, Editor Punjabi, JKAACL conducted proceedings and presented the vote of thanks.
