Women police officers trained on ‘social construction of gender, violence against women’

JAMMU, Mar 4: A training session for women police officers/officials on “social construction of gender and violence against women,” was organised here today to bust several myths and misconceptions around violence against women.
As per a statement, Dr Trupti Jhaveri Panchal, faculty at TISS and Balwant Singh, Coordinator, RCI-VAW, TISS Mumbai facilitated the session through participatory mode.
Dr Sunil Gupta, DIG JKS Range, in his address, focussed on how women police station officials as important interveners only next to doctors can intervene on the issue of violence in a positive way to provide maximum relief to the survivors.
He stressed on the importance of coordination between multiple agencies such as Special Cells for Women, One Stop Centres, and DLSA to provide support to the victims of the violence.
Vishal Manhas, SO to ADGP Jammu, S Narinder Singh, DySP (M) ZPHQ, Saima Shah, Coordinator, Special Cells for Women, Kashmir Division, among other women police officials attended the training session.
