JAMMU, Feb 18: Highlighting the importance of PMGSY in the State, Minister for Roads & Buildings and Mechanical Engineering Abdul Majid Wani has said that with the implementation of this flagship programme the road connectivity has substantially improved in the rural areas of the State.
The Minister was replying to the discussion on the Demand of Grants for the Department of Roads & Buildings and Mechanical Engineering Department in Legislative Assembly today.
Listing the achievements registered during the last fiscal, the Minister informed that an amount of Rs. 250. 30 crore has been spent under R&B sector under state sector. He said 1857 Kms of new road length would be constructed during current fiscal. Similarly, 1183.90 Kms road length has been blacktopped and WBM laid on 1592.89 Kms so far.
The Minister said widening of Satwari-Kunjwani road project with an involvement of Rs. 19.49 crore is expected to be completed during the current fiscal. He said as many as 13 vital bridges have also been completed under Special Bridges Programme in the State. The new road projects and bridges have also been submitted for funding to the Union Government under CRF to enhance the road connectivity in different identified areas.
Wani said that work on Mughal Road Project having total road length of 84.10 Kms with 7 vital bridges has been completed under PMRP Plan, adding that construction work on Rs. 73.33 crore Bhaderwah-Chamba road is going on in full swing under inter-state connectivity and is expected to be completed by next fiscal.
The Minister informed that 134 schemes, constructing 695 Kms road length, covering 329 habitations have been completed under PMGSY till date. He said that first installment of Rs.223 crore stands released for disbursement of land and forest compensation under PMGSY for which the Union Government has recently sanctioned Rs. 710 crore.
Divulging the Action Plan of the department, the Minister said that the proposal of Rs. 25.01 crore for improvement and up-gradation of Palli Morh – Narote Jaimal Singh road connecting Pathankot- Amritsar Highway under inter State Connectivity and construction of tunnel on Mughal Road for making it all season road communication have been submitted to Union Government for approval.
Earlier, the Minister moved a Demand for Grant of a sum of Rs.1816.57 crore to defray the charges which will come in the course of payment during the year ending March 31, 2015 for the departments under his charge.
Later, the members, who moved the Cut Motions on the Grants, withdrew after the satisfactory reply from the Minister.
The House passed the grants by a voice vote.
