351 acres JDA land encroached

JAMMU, Feb 18: The Government today said 2810 kanals (351.25 acres) of prime land belonging to the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) has been encroached upon by land grabbers in Jammu.
“2810 kanals of the demarcated land (belonging to the JDA) has been encroached upon by illegal occupants (in Jammu winter capital city),” Urban Development Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora said in a written reply in response to a cut motion in the Legislative Assembly.
As per records available, out of a total 17884 kanals and 17 marlas (2235.5 acres) of demarcated land with the JDA, 8880 kanals and 18 marlas (1110 acres) had been utilised by the JDA for various developmental purposes, Mr Jora said.
He added that 751 kanals and 13 marlas (93 acres) of demarcated land had been regularized in favour of illegal occupants under various Government orders in the regularized colonies.
He said 1882 kanals and 10 marlas (235 acres) of land had been retrieved by the JDA with the assistance of police.
