JU faculty injured in accidental fire

JAMMU, Mar 6: In an apparent case of accidental fire from the weapon of a security guard, a University of Jammu faculty suffered injuries here today.
Surjeet Singh son of Prem Singh, the security guard working at Jagdambey Jewellers, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, and Bharati Raja (45), the Assistant Professor of Jammu University (JU), who is originally from Tamil Nadu, were travelling in a matador.
The moment they de-boarded the matador, a bullet from the 12 bore gun carried by the former accidentally struck the latter near Akash Institute, Gandhi Nagar Jammu, resulting in injuries to the JU faculty in one of his arms.
He was immediately taken to Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, where after preliminary treatment, he was referred to Government Medical College Jammu, where his condition is stated to be stable.
Police have arrested the security guard and booked him in case FIR number 55/2024 under sections 336, 337 IPC and 3/25 Arms Act registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and started further investigation.
