NEW DELHI, Feb 19: Veteran anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare, who had earlier said he will not support any political party, today announced that he would campaign for Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
Hazare announced this at a joint press conference with Ms Banerjee here.
Both had a dinner meeting last night. Ms Banerjee had touched the 75-year-old social activist’s feet thrice when he arrived for the meeting at the Trinamool Congress headquarters in Delhi.
“Mamataji is living a simple life. She is not using Government car, bungalow nor salary. Who does all this these days? The nation wants this kind of leaders,” Hazare said.
He said the West Bengal Chief Minister has agreed to implement his 17-point charter for political parties. Hazare said he was not supporting Ms Banerjee as a ‘political party’ but respect her views on the nation. (UNI)
