JAMMU, Feb 19: A total 114 LPG outlets presently exist in the State while 172 new are coming up shortly covering most of the rural areas.
Giving this information in the Upper House of the Legislature on the question of PDP Member, Naeem Akhtar today the CAPD Minister Ch Mohd Ramzan said that out of the total 114 LPG outlets existing in J&K, 62 are in Jammu region while 52 in Kashmir. He said that LPG distributors are being appointed by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas through its oil marketing companies and the CAPD has limited role in it.
Replying to yet another question of Mr Akhtar, the Minister said out of the total 172 new outlets coming up, 18 will be opened in Ladakh region. He said if any member projects demand in his area the department would recommend the same to the oil companies.
The PDP member asked whether there exist any norms for opening of LPG outlets in accordance with the population and what number of such outlets should be there in the State as per norms and population. Ramzan said the oil companies have fixed the norms for the same and they opened from where the demand arises. He further maintained that the department checks shortfall through the field functionaries and communicates the same to the concerned companies. Subash Gupta from Congress asked why not a single gas agency was sanctioned for Hiranagar so far, the Minister assured to recommend this proposal to the oil company.
Regarding Bathinda Jammu gas line project, the Minister said that Haryana had raised some objections and the matter has been taken up with the concerned Chief Minister. The permission from Punjab Government is also yet awaited.
