Rajouri Police briefs people on new criminal laws

JAMMU, Mar 10: In order to acquaint the public in general and student and legal community in particular, a workshop on three newly introduced criminal laws ‘Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita’, Bhartiya Nagrik Surakhsha Sanhita, Bhartiya Sakshya Sanhita’ was held at degree college Thannamandi by district police Rajouri.
At the very outset of the workshop, SDPO Thannamandi Viqar Younis Batt presented a power point presentation on the stating laws and highlighted the salient features thereof.
He pointed out need of new criminal laws starting that the earlier laws were largely influenced by the colonial mindset and lacked the humanist approach.
“Most of the laws were arbitrary in nature and didn’t provide the scope for the use of modern technology in dealing with crime. While as the new laws are based on humanist values and are victim centric. These new laws allow the use of technology in dealing with crime and provide for the time bound disposal of cases. He further insisted all the participants present there to study the laws and make others aware as well.
It is pertinent to mention here that people from different walks on life attended this workshop particularly the legal and student community. All the participants appreciated the efforts of Rajouri Police for taking these initiatives of awareness with regard to these newly introduced criminal laws.
