KATHUA, Mar 11: A complex arthroscopic reconstruction of the ‘Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) of Knee’ was performed in Gupta Hospital and Research Centre (GHRC), here today on an 18-year-old male patient who had torn his ACL about 1 year ago due to truama.
ACL is the main ligament which is required for stability of knee. Patient was having pain and his knee was unstable. He was not able to run with confidence and while running his knee was giving way. Tendons of hamstring muscles of thigh were used to reconstruct ACL using minimal invasive (button hole) arthroscopic technique. Also, Anterolateral Ligament (ALL) was reconstructed by Lateral Extra-articular Tenodesis (LET) using iliotibial band.
The surgery was performed by Dr Mohinder Singh Chib (Consultant Orthopedics) who is trained in such types of arthroscopic surgeries. He has multiple fellowships in arthroplasty, arthroscopy, trauma and sports medicine to his name. Arthroscopic surgeries and joint replacement procedures are being regularly performed in GHRC Kathua by Dr Mohinder Singh Chib for the last 1 year and this complex ACL Surgery is first to be performed in Kathua in which ALL was also reconstructed.
