JAMMU, Mar 14: Agrometeorology Section of SKUAST-Jammu organized `Field Exposure’ at its Research Farm, under SC- SP (capital) of AICRPAM to sensitize the farmers about climate change, weather forecasting and its use in day to day farm activities to save the input cost of different crops.
Dr S K Gupta, Director Research and Registrar, SKUAST-Jammu was chief guest of the programme. He emphasized to adopt modern technologies in agriculture like drones that are emerging as a component for the precision agriculture along with contributing to sustainable agriculture.
Dr Mahender Singh, Chief Scientist and Incharge, Agrometeorology Section, highlighted various emerging techniques to develop crop weather relationship in rabi crops.
Dr Sahid Ahmed, Associate Director Research advised the farmers to manage the various diseases in Wheat, Mustard and Chickpea crops by using weather forecasting and minimizing the pesticide use in the crops.
Dr Mahital Jamwal, Associate Director Research, emphasized farmers to move toward a farming system that is more sustainable environmentally, economically, and socially.
Dr Veena Sharma, Technical Officer, GKMS, AMFU, Chatha advised the farmers to adopt the weather based Agro Advisory bulletin for various farm operation as well as other allied sectors.
Dr Charu Sharma, YP-II, AICRPAM-NICRA Project, emphasized farming community to adopt improved/modern technologies like agroadvisories services and mechanized farming system to improve livelihood of the farmers of area.
