JE caught red handed taking bribe of Rs 5000

SRINAGAR, Mar 15: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has caught red handed a Junior Engineer (JE) of Rural Development Department (RDD) for accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from a complainant for processing/preparing bill of the MG-NREGA work executed by him.
“Acting on a complaint from a person, a resident of village Kunnel (Qaziabad, Handwara, district Kupwara), that he executed some work under MG-NREGA and for preparing & processing the bill of the work & for preparing labour demand, JE Arshid Ayoub Marazi and GR Suboor Mir are demanding bribe of Rs 5000 and Rs 3000, respectively from him as their commission,” a spokesman of ACB said.
He said during verification, the ACB found the allegations as true and a case FIR Number 02-2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station ACB Baramulla against accused Arshid Ayoub Marazi (JE) and GR Suboor Mir, and further investigation initiated.
“During the course of investigation, a team was constituted which laid a successful trap and caught the accused JE red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 5000 from complainant. The bribe money was later recovered from the possession of accused as well as one shopkeeper to whom he has given the money in presence of independent witnesses,” he added.
The accused public servant was arrested on the spot after completing all legal formalities, the spokesman said. He said the role of GRS and other officials in the case is also being investigated.
