National Workshop on reproductive biology held in BGSBU

Rajouri, Feb 21: Two-days National Workshop sponsored by Government of India on training in the field of plant reproductive biology concluded in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri in which participants from various parts of country participated.
The Workshop sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India was inaugurated at Centre for Biodiversity Studies by Vice Chancellor Prof I A Hamal  who expressed his happiness over the organization of workshop and interacted with all the participants during the programme and motivated them to take the task of conservation seriously. “We must take this job seriously”, he added.
Earlier the programme started with a welcome address by Dr Susheel Verma, Associate Professor, Centre for Biodiversity Studies and Organising secretary of the workshop. He extended a warm welcome to all the participants who had come from right from Itanagar to Shillong, Jodhpur, Goa, Ratnagiri, Almora, New Delhi, Jammu and Srinagar.
Professor S. K. Barik,  the National Coordinator of the programme  on prevention of extinction of the species through biotechnological tools gave a brief of the programme and the significance of holding this kind of workshop so that objective of conservation of the species is achieved. Dr Omkar Tiwari, representative of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India also spoke on the significance of such workshops in conservation reintroduction of threatened species to the field.
Professor R. N. Gohil, Sub coordinator of the project highlighted the achievements of the programme and impressed upon the participants to take the task of species recovery seriously so that we are able to save each and every species. While participating in the interaction Prof. A. K. Koul, Dean Academic Affairs, BGSB University and a veteran Botanist of National and International repute while concluding the programme of the event stressed upon the relevance of Reproductive biology in conservation of Biodiversity as without understanding how plants reproduce and what constraints they face in their reproductive process, no effective strategy can be devised for their conservation. Dr. Shreekar Pant, Assistant Professor, Centre for Biodiversity Studies presented the vote of thanks.
Among others who graced the occasion included Prof. Namrata Sharma and Dr Veenu Kaul from University of Jammu, Professor Kadambari Gupta, Professor S. K. Gupta, Colonel K. K. Dogra, Principal Polytechnic and Mohd Ishaq, Controller of Examinations BGSBU.
