220 bovines rescued, 20 vehicles seized

UDHAMPUR, Mar 17: Udhampur Police today rescued 220 bovines by foiling smuggling bids at Chenani, Panchari, Tikri and Rehambal.
Reports said that Police team of Police Station Chenani, led by its SHO Inspector Anil Sharma, intercepted 14 trucks and one Mahindra pickup at different locations on the National Highway and rescued 189 bovines.
These bovines were being smuggled in the vehicles, bearing registration number JK05J-9524, JK02AW-3519, JK14J-8761, JK14A-6597, JK13F-5044, JK02DG-1945, (Mahindra Bolera pickup), JK14A9382, JK02AW-8175, JK02BJ-6895, JK02AF-8597, JK02BK-5276, JK02AL-3675, JK21A-8257, JK02DL-2195 and JK21C-7214.
Police seized all the vehicles while drivers managed to escape. In this connection, 15 different FIRs have been registered in Police Station Chenani under relevent sections of law.
Meanwhile, a Team of Police Station Panchari foiled one bovine smuggling bid and rescued 09 bovines, which were being smuggled in a vehicle bearing registration number JK14G-5847.
Driver of the vehicle fled away from the spot after leaving behind his vehicle on the road. In this regard case FIR number 08/2024, under section 188 IPC, 11 PCA has been registered in PS Panchari.
In another success, Police at Tikri rescued 18 bovines from three different vehicles bearing registration numbers JK02CL-7740, JK02CS-9920 and JK02CU-1566 . Two accused drivers, namely Mumtaz Ahmed son of Mohd Khalil of Verinag, Anantnag and Muzamil Ahmed son of Mohd Yousuf of Gol Gujral were arrested.
One more bovine smuggling attempted was foiled under the jurisdiction of Police Station Rehambal. Four bovines were rescued which were being smuggled in a vehicle (JK02CD- 5899). Police seized the vehicle and arrested its driver, identified as Mohd Shabeer, son of Fareed Ahmed of Jhajjar Kotli.
