Srinagar, Mar 19: A two-day International Conference on ‘Multidisciplinary Research and Innovation’ commenced at Govt. College for Women, M.A. Road today, gathering academicians and policymakers to discuss the benefits and scope of collaborative approaches in education and research.
The inaugural session featured addresses from Commissioner Secretary of the Hospitality and Protocol Department, Dr. Rashmi Singh; Commissioner/Secretary of the Science & Technology Department, Saurabh Bhagat; MD/CEO of J&K Bank, Baldev Prakash; and Director Colleges, Prof. Yasmeen Ashai. Dr. John Zheng from Mississippi Valley State University delivered the Keynote Address.
Dr. Rashmi Singh, also serving as the Principal Resident Commissioner in New Delhi, was the Guest of Honor and delivered the Plenary Talk, emphasizing that the multidisciplinary approach to research aims to understand issues comprehensively, paving the way for solutions and innovations.

Saurabh Bhagat highlighted the importance and scope of multidisciplinary research, citing its integration into the knowledge ethos through the National Educational Policy (NEP-2020). He underscored the role of Science and Technology in driving major economies, citing J&K’s growing number of innovators, patents, startups, and researches.
Prof. Yasmeen Ashai discussed NEP-2020’s emphasis on multidisciplinary research and innovation, highlighting its positive impact on learning outcomes.
MD/CEO of J&K Bank, Baldev Prakash, the Special Guest, addressed the importance of Sustainable Development in the face of climate change, stressing the need to meet present needs without compromising future generations’ needs.
Principal of the host college, Prof. Ruhi Jan Kanth, outlined the conference’s goal to facilitate exchanges among researchers, academicians, and industry professionals.
Dr. John Zheng, the keynote speaker, shared insights from his work on Sonia Sanchez, an influential figure in the Black Arts Movement and civil rights activism.
During the event, the abstract book of the conference was released, along with a book authored by Dr. Oveesa Farooq, a faculty member of the college.
Organizing Secretary, Dr. Sameer Kaul, discussed the conference’s relevance and introduced its themes and sub-themes.
